Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users with a Massive Rescue Plan
The world of decentralized finance is often fragmented, but in times of crisis, it can also reveal a remarkable level of cooperation. Aave, a leading lending protocol in DeFi, has become the focal point of a broad recovery effort following significant losses resulting from the Kelp DAO exploit. This endeavor, informally known as 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital still awaiting governance approval. The exploit has led to a ripple effect in rsETH markets, creating risk across lending positions on Aave, and has prompted one of the most coordinated industry responses to a DeFi incident. Aave Labs has outlined a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery effort, with founder Stani Kulechov personally donating 5,000 ETH. Other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, BGD Labs, and KPK's Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also providing support. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Sharplink has played a strategic advisory role in these discussions. Smaller contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, Mantle, and Compound, among others. Babylon Foundation plans to deposit $3 million in USDT, while Renzo has supplied over $10 million from its treasury. Circle Ventures is purchasing AAVE tokens, and additional deposits have come from entities such as Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities like Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation also contributing. Aave Labs has proposed that Arbitrum governance approve the release of roughly 30,765.67 ETH immobilized by the network's Security Council into the coordinated remediation effort. Much of the capital remains subject to governance approval, but the breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi.
