Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance is taking a significant step towards aligning its tokenized equities with traditional ones by introducing a proxy voting feature for its investors. This move aims to enhance corporate governance participation for holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform, which is made possible through a collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions. Users can access this feature by logging in with their crypto wallets, thereby gaining access to company documents and governance tools typically available only through brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is particularly noteworthy given the rapid growth of tokenized equities in the crypto sector, with the category now boasting over $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this sector, with more than $700 million in stock and ETF tokens on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's decision to add proxy voting capabilities addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these offerings. While the tokens do not directly grant shareholder rights, they allow investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a major processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its services to blockchain systems, with the goal of supporting both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. The move is expected to enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance in the tokenized world, thereby increasing trust among end investors, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
