KuCoin EU Enhances AML Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In an effort to address regulatory concerns, the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has expanded its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This move comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) ordered the exchange to halt its European operations due to a shortage of AML and compliance staff. KuCoin EU, which is licensed under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation by the FMA, has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its new Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLO). Additionally, the company has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers, further enhancing its AML function. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized that the exchange has been actively strengthening its compliance team, making several key appointments to ensure a robust and compliant operation. However, the timeline for resuming European operations remains uncertain, pending discussions with the FMA.
