Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Hack

In the often-fragmented world of decentralized finance, crises often reveal underlying weaknesses. However, the recent response to the Kelp DAO exploit has shown an unusual level of cooperation and unity. Aave, one of the largest lending protocols in DeFi, is at the center of a broad recovery effort, with capital and credit commitments pouring in from across the industry. The effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has secured around $303 million in commitments, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which affected rsETH markets and created risk across lending positions on Aave, has prompted a coordinated industry response. According to an Aave Labs spokesperson, 'There's a shared priority around supporting users and restoring normal market conditions.' Many participants have a direct interest in ensuring markets function as expected, given their deep connections to DeFi through infrastructure, capital, or user access. Aave itself is at the core of the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery. Other contributors, including Aave's founder Stani Kulechov, are also stepping in with significant donations. The response has extended beyond Aave, with direct outreach and coordination from key players in the ecosystem. Following the bridge hack, Kulechov reached out to Consensys and other ecosystem participants to help coordinate a response. Consensys, alongside its founder Joseph Lubin, has committed up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Sharplink played a strategic advisory role in those discussions. The effort has also drawn smaller contributions from across the community, including proposals from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle. Other contributions have taken the form of deposits into Aave itself, with entities such as Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures participating. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also involved. According to the Aave Labs spokesperson, 'These are long-standing Aave relationships across the ecosystem.' The breadth of participation underscores the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi. As Lubin noted, 'The Ethereum ecosystem has always been at its best when it moves together.' DeFi United represents a broad, coordinated response to protect users and strengthen the infrastructure that has been built.
