Innovative Wallet Offers Solution to Mitigate Bitcoin's Quantum Vulnerability Without Requiring a Fork
The developers of a newly launched wallet claim to have discovered a method to address the risks associated with quantum computing by utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in conjunction with the Bitcoin network, without necessitating any modifications to the network itself. Postquant Labs unveiled its post-quantum Bitcoin wallet, Quip Network, which operates on the Arch Network, a system that enables developers to create smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. Quip incorporates a post-quantum signature scheme known as WOTS+, which provides an additional layer of security to Bitcoin's existing security measures. This approach allows for the addition of features without altering Bitcoin's base layer, thereby sidestepping the need for a fork. The launch of Quip comes amidst an ongoing debate within the Bitcoin community regarding the best approach to mitigate quantum risk, with some proposals suggesting a soft fork or a hard fork. However, Quip's approach eliminates the need for such measures, instead offering a solution that can be implemented immediately.
