Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Over UST-LUNA Collapse
Jane Street has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by Terraform Labs' bankruptcy estate, which claims the trading firm contributed to the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token Luna. In its filing, Jane Street contends that the lawsuit is an attempt to deflect responsibility for the Terra ecosystem's failure, which resulted in a $40 billion loss. The firm argues that the core issues surrounding Terra's collapse have already been resolved in court, citing cases against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who has been found guilty of conspiracy and wire fraud. Jane Street denies any involvement in the collapse and maintains that Terraform's own misconduct led to the failure. The lawsuit, filed by Terraform administrator Todd Snyder, alleges that Jane Street engaged in insider trading using nonpublic information from Terraform insiders. However, Jane Street disputes this narrative, stating that it had no role in the collapse and that Terraform's fraud scheme has already been prosecuted and punished. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion could have significant implications for how responsibility for the collapse is assigned.
