Polymarket Seeks CFTC Approval to Reopen Main Platform to US Traders

Polymarket is pursuing Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approval to relaunch its primary prediction market for US users. According to Bloomberg, the company has engaged in discussions with CFTC officials regarding the removal of its US trader ban, which was implemented following a 2022 settlement. The CFTC previously cleared a separate US-exclusive Polymarket platform after the company acquired a registered exchange. Prediction markets, allowing users to trade contracts tied to future events, have faced increasing scrutiny from states claiming they operate as unlicensed gambling operations. A CFTC vote is required to lift the US block, with Chairman Michael Selig having previously argued that states lack the authority to regulate these markets. The development comes after an incident involving a soldier using a VPN to access Polymarket's international exchange for trades based on classified information. Polymarket has declined to comment on the matter.
