DeFi Leaders Unite to Rescue Aave Users with $303 Million Recovery Plan After Massive Crypto Hack

The world of decentralized finance has often been marked by division, but in the face of crisis, an unusual level of cooperation has emerged. Following a significant exploit tied to the Kelp DAO, Aave, one of DeFi's largest lending protocols, has become the focal point of a broad recovery effort. Dubbed 'DeFi United,' this initiative has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs, along with other key players, is driving this effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for recovery. Founder Stani Kulechov has also pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally, while other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, BGD Labs, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are committing significant amounts. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin agreeing to commit up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Smaller contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, among others, with proposals for stETH allocations, credit facility loans, and deposits into Aave. Entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun have also made significant commitments. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, Ink Foundation, and Tyro also involved. These contributions reflect long-standing relationships within the ecosystem, with teams working closely together to support users and restore market stability. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi, underscoring the importance of coordinated responses to protect users and strengthen infrastructure. As the Ethereum ecosystem moves forward together, the 'DeFi United' initiative serves as a testament to the community's ability to come together in times of crisis.
