Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a significant move to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has launched proxy voting for holders of its extensive range of tokenized securities. This development enables investors to engage more deeply in the governance of the companies they invest in, a key aspect that has been lacking in tokenized equity offerings. Through its collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo Finance now offers holders of over 250 tokenized securities the ability to review company documents and cast their votes using Broadridge's ProxyVote system. This integration allows investors to access governance tools and company filings directly through their crypto wallets, a level of access typically reserved for those with traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting to tokenized equities addresses a significant gap in investor rights. Although these tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights and remain distinct from the underlying shares, the new system enables investors to express their voting preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's Global Head of Institutional, "This move aligns with our vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. By being on-chain, these assets become freely transferable and compatible with DeFi, while also providing the governance benefits associated with the underlying assets." Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to support blockchain-based systems. The goal is to create a unified workflow that accommodates both digital and conventional assets, thereby enhancing transparency, auditability, and compliance for investors. Danielle Gurrieri, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management at Broadridge, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, "Providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance will significantly contribute to making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors."
