Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a move to align tokenized equities with their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature, enabling investors to participate in corporate decision-making. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company documents and cast their votes through the ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have experienced rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, and Ondo stands as the largest issuer with over $700 million in tokens on its Global Markets platform. This development addresses a crucial gap in governance rights for token holders, who can now express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move embodies the company's vision of making traditional assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain transactions with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, aims to extend its infrastructure to blockchain systems, supporting both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. This integration is expected to enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance, ultimately fostering trust among investors and driving the scalability of the tokenized ecosystem, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
