Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a significant development, Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities platform by introducing proxy voting, allowing investors to participate in corporate governance decisions. This feature, developed in partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company filings and cast their votes through the ProxyVote system. Investors can access these documents and governance tools using their crypto wallets, similar to those available in traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is crucial as it addresses a key limitation of tokenized equities, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens are separate from the underlying shares and do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems, aiming to provide a seamless experience for both digital and conventional assets. The goal is to offer the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance, which will enhance trust among end investors and make the tokenized world more scalable, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
