Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a significant move, Ondo Finance is enhancing the capabilities of its tokenized equities, enabling investors to engage in corporate decision-making processes. The newly introduced feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, empowers holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company documents and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By leveraging their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. As the tokenized equities sector experiences rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo stands out as the largest issuer, with more than $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, catering to non-U.S. investors. The incorporation of proxy voting is crucial, as it addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these tokenized offerings. Although Ondo's tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system allows investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, "This development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, offering the benefits of on-chain transactions, compatibility with DeFi, and the governance associated with the underlying assets." Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain systems. The goal is to provide seamless support for both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, "Providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability of the tokenized world, fostering trust among end investors."
