The developers of a new wallet claim to have developed a method to counter the risks associated with quantum computing by utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in conjunction with the Bitcoin network, eliminating the need for any alterations to the network itself. Postquant Labs has unveiled Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet, which operates on Arch Network, a system enabling developers to create smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. This approach allows for the addition of a post-quantum signature scheme, known as WOTS+, to enhance Bitcoin's existing security without relying on elliptic curve math that could be vulnerable to quantum computers. By utilizing a 'Layer 2' network, developers can introduce new features without modifying Bitcoin's base layer, providing an immediate solution to the quantum risk concerns that have been delayed for years.
