Welcome to Crypto Long & Short, our institutional newsletter. This week, we explore the need to safeguard the individuals and companies building decentralized finance infrastructure.
As traditional finance companies increasingly adopt DeFi technologies, it's crucial that we protect the open-source, permissionless, and programmable nature of these innovations. The DeFi Education Fund, a nonpartisan nonprofit, is working to defend key policy objectives that support the growth of DeFi. Recently, the Promoting Innovation in Blockchain Development Act was introduced to protect software developers from misclassification under criminal code.
This legislation is essential for fostering a supportive environment for DeFi innovation. Additionally, we examine the limitations of Ethereum's L2 scaling strategy, which has led to fragmentation rather than unified scaling.
The rollup model, designed to address congestion, has created isolated liquidity pools that can't interact without bridge infrastructure, resulting in a concentration of assets and increased vulnerability to attacks. An alternative approach, state channels, allows for peer-to-peer transactions off-chain, eliminating the need for intermediaries and reducing the risk of exploitation.
As the crypto market continues to evolve, it's essential that we prioritize the protection of DeFi infrastructure and the individuals building it.
