Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a bid to increase the appeal of tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature, enabling holders of over 250 tokenized securities to participate in corporate decision-making. This development brings tokenized stocks and ETFs closer to their traditional equivalents. By integrating with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo's platform now allows investors to review company filings and cast votes via the ProxyVote system, using their crypto wallets to access the necessary documents and governance tools. The growth of tokenized equities has been rapid, with the sector now boasting over $1.1 billion in value locked, more than triple its size just a year ago. As the largest issuer in this space, with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's move underscores its commitment to enhancing the investor experience. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have often lacked the governance rights afforded by traditional shares. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain transactions with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, with the goal of supporting both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. By providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance as traditional assets, this move is expected to enhance the scalability and trustworthiness of the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
