DeFi Leaders Unite to Rescue Aave Users with Hundreds of Millions in Recovery Funds
The decentralized finance world is witnessing an unprecedented level of coordination in response to the massive crypto hack affecting Aave users. A broad recovery effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a cohesive industry response. Aave Labs and other key players are at the forefront of the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for recovery. Founder Stani Kulechov has pledged 5,000 ETH, while other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also stepping in. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support and Sharplink playing a strategic advisory role. Smaller contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, among others. Entities such as Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures have made deposits into Aave, while Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun have also contributed. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation, alongside Tyro, also involved. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi, with a shared priority of supporting users and restoring normal market conditions.
