Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance is enhancing the experience of tokenized equities by introducing a feature that allows investors to participate in corporate decision-making. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables holders of over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform to review company documents and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for conventional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have been growing rapidly, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, and Ondo is the largest issuer in this sector with more than $700 million in tokens on its Global Markets platform. This move addresses a key limitation of equity tokens, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares, the new system allows investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, offering the benefits of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, while also providing governance rights. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. This integration is expected to enhance scalability, auditability, transparency, and compliance, ultimately building trust among end investors, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
