Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

The U.S. Department of Justice has arrested a master sergeant with the Army, alleging he used his knowledge of an impending military operation in Venezuela to place bets and win a substantial amount of money. Gannon Ken Van Dyke, an active duty soldier with the U.S. Army Special Forces, allegedly created a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets on contracts related to the U.S. military operation in Venezuela, including the potential removal of Nicolas Maduro. According to the indictment, Van Dyke used classified information to inform his bets, which is considered a form of insider trading and is illegal under federal law. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint in federal court. Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his identity and his winnings by withdrawing the funds, converting them to cryptocurrency, and moving them into a brokerage account. The incident has drawn attention from U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of the use of confidential information for personal gain.
