The narrative surrounding the crypto market structure bill suggests that its passage this month is unlikely, marking a critical juncture in the process. The significance of this bill lies in its potential to cement crypto industry regulations into law, making it more challenging for future administrations to reverse these rules. Without the Clarity Act, the industry may face similar conversations in the years to come. A key deadline, Memorial Day, is approaching, and lawmakers will soon be distracted by their campaigns, leaving little time for the crypto bill. Before Congress departs, it must address funding for the Department of Homeland Security and the potential appointment of Kevin Warsh as the next Fed chair. The crypto industry is eagerly awaiting the bill's passage, with over 100 companies signing an open letter urging a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee. However, the committee's progress remains unclear, and even if issues are resolved, the House will need to revote on the bill. Congressman French Hill believes that many outstanding issues have been addressed in the House version of the bill, which should facilitate common ground in the Senate. The discussion will continue at Consensus Miami next month. For feedback or suggestions on future topics, email nik@coindesk.com or join the conversation on Telegram.
