DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users with $303 Million Rescue Plan Following Massive Crypto Hack
The decentralized finance sector is witnessing an unprecedented level of cooperation in response to a recent massive crypto hack. Aave, a prominent lending protocol, has become the focal point of a comprehensive recovery effort, with industry leaders pledging hundreds of millions of dollars in support. This collective response, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has garnered around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with a significant portion still awaiting governance approval. The hack, which affected rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted one of the most unified industry responses to a DeFi incident. Aave Labs has proposed allocating up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery plan, while other key players, including Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin, have committed to providing substantial financial support. The initiative has also drawn contributions from smaller community members, with Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle proposing various support measures. Furthermore, several entities have made deposits into Aave, including Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation among those that have pledged their support. The diversity of contributions, ranging from grants and deposits to credit lines, highlights the different approaches to balancing support with risk management. Aave Labs has also proposed a plan to release immobilized ETH into the coordinated remediation effort, aiming to restore rsETH's backing and compensate affected holders. While much of the capital remains subject to governance approval, the widespread participation underscores the far-reaching impact of the exploit across DeFi.
