Senator Warren Queries Commerce Secretary Over Tether's Alleged Loan to Lutnick's Family

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, formerly the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, which handles Tether's US finances, is facing questions from Senate Democrats over reports that his children's trust received a loan from Tether to facilitate his divestment of company shares. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden have asked Tether if it provided financial assistance for Lutnick's transfer of his stake in the financial services company to his children through trusts. The lawmakers expressed concern that if the reports are accurate, it could raise serious questions about Lutnick's relationship with Tether and the potential influence on his policy decisions. This comes after Congress passed a law to regulate stablecoin issuers like Tether, with CEO Ardoino attending the White House signing ceremony. The senators emphasized the importance of Lutnick making decisions in the best interest of the American public, rather than his family or Tether. Representatives from the Department of Commerce and Tether have not responded to requests for comment. Lutnick's company, Cantor, is now led by his sons, while Tether continues to expand its US presence with the launch of its USAT stablecoin and a US arm led by a former Trump crypto adviser.
