Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a move to bridge the gap between tokenized equities and traditional assets, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting for holders of its extensive range of tokenized securities. This development enables investors to engage with corporate governance, reviewing company filings and submitting voting preferences through a seamless process. By integrating Broadridge Financial Solutions' ProxyVote system, Ondo's platform now offers over 250 tokenized securities, allowing investors to access key documents and governance tools typically associated with brokerage accounts, using their crypto wallets for authentication. As the tokenized equities sector experiences rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo stands as a leader, with more than $700 million in stock and ETF tokens available on its Global Markets platform for non-U.S. investors. The addition of proxy voting addresses a significant gap in equity tokens, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express preferences that Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this innovation aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within unified workflows. This move is expected to enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance, thereby increasing trust among end investors, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
