US Arrests Army Green Beret Over $400,000 Bet on Venezuela Raid

The US Department of Justice has arrested a master sergeant with the Army, alleging he used confidential government information to place wagers on a raid in Venezuela, winning around $400,000. Gannon Ken Van Dyke has been charged with unlawfully using confidential information for personal gain, theft, and fraud. He allegedly created a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets on contracts related to the US operation in Venezuela. Van Dyke, an active duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, was involved in the planning and execution of the operation. After the raid, he allegedly withdrew his winnings, converted them to cryptocurrency, and moved them into a brokerage account. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint. The incident has drawn attention from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of betting using confidential information.
