Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $80,000, Analysts Predict Temporary Setback
Bitcoin, currently trading at $76,405.80, is experiencing a familiar pattern just shy of the $80,000 mark, hindered by sellers despite indicators such as new stablecoin liquidity, ETF demand, and a risk-on equity market suggesting a potential breakout may be postponed rather than dismissed. During Asian trading hours, Bitcoin briefly surpassed $79,000 before retreating to trade below $78,000, resulting in a 0.4% loss over the past 24 hours. Other cryptocurrencies like Ether, XRP, and Solana's SOL have also seen declines, with broader market benchmarks experiencing over a 1% drop. According to FxPro's Chief Market Analyst, Alex Kuptsikevich, the $80,000 level acts as a near-term barrier due to concentrated sell orders, but he believes the pullback is temporary and aligns with a broader uptrend that started in late March. On-chain and ETF data support this view, with Binance recording a net inflow of roughly $3.4 billion in stablecoins this month and U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs pulling in $2.44 billion in investor money. However, security risks in DeFi continue to impact sentiment, with recent exploits resulting in significant losses. In traditional markets, crude oil prices remain high, posing a threat to the global economy with potential high inflation.
