US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

A US Army master sergeant has been arrested by the Department of Justice for allegedly using classified information about a military operation in Venezuela to place bets worth $33,000, resulting in winnings of approximately $400,000. Gannon Ken Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, is accused of violating federal law by using confidential government information for personal gain. The indictment alleges that Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets on contracts related to the US military operation in Venezuela, including the removal of Nicolas Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke, stating that his actions endangered US national security and put the lives of American service members at risk. After the raid, Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his involvement by withdrawing the funds, converting them to cryptocurrency, and transferring them to a brokerage account. The investigation was initiated after news organizations noticed the large profit made on the Polymarket bets, and Polymarket cooperated with the DOJ investigation. US President Donald Trump has also commented on the allegations, expressing his disapproval of the use of confidential information for betting purposes.
