Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities
In a significant move, Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities to mirror their traditional counterparts more closely, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance decisions. By collaborating with Broadridge Financial Solutions, the platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company documents and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. This integration enables investors to access governance tools and documents typically available only through brokerage accounts, using their crypto wallets for login. The introduction of proxy voting for tokenized equities addresses a critical gap, as these assets have often lacked fundamental governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens are distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system permits investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, "This development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, offering the benefits of on-chain assets, such as free transferability and DeFi compatibility, alongside the governance of the underlying assets." Broadridge, a major processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems, aiming to facilitate both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability of the tokenized world, fostering trust among end investors.
