Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a move to bridge the gap between tokenized and traditional equities, Ondo Finance has launched a proxy voting feature for its tokenized securities. This innovation allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company filings and cast their votes through Broadridge Financial Solutions' ProxyVote system. By integrating this feature, Ondo aims to provide investors with a more traditional equity experience, complete with access to governance tools and documents typically reserved for brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as it addresses a long-standing issue in the tokenized equities space: the lack of basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, this new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. By combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of traditional equities, Ondo is poised to revolutionize the tokenized equities sector. The partnership with Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, marks a significant milestone in the adoption of blockchain technology. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, this move will bring a new level of auditability, transparency, and compliance to the tokenized world, ultimately making it more scalable and trustworthy for investors.
