KuCoin EU Boosts Compliance Team to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In a move to address regulatory concerns, the European division of cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has enlisted the expertise of anti-money laundering and compliance specialists. This development comes after the exchange was instructed by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA) to halt its European operations due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. KuCoin EU, which holds a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the FMA, has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its new Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLO). Additionally, the company has expanded its broader AML function and hired seasoned compliance professionals Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the exchange's commitment to transparency and dialogue with the regulator. The past few months have been challenging for KuCoin, with the exchange facing regulatory issues in the U.S. and Dubai. However, Liu remains optimistic about strengthening the compliance team, which has seen significant appointments since February. While a timeline for resuming European operations is uncertain, Liu stressed the importance of ongoing discussions with the FMA.
