FTX Founder Withdraws Request for Retrial, Citing Concerns Over Fairness

Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, has formally withdrawn his request for a retrial, expressing concerns that he may not receive a fair hearing. Bankman-Fried, currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for fraud and conspiracy related to FTX's collapse, indicated that he may renew the motion after the resolution of his direct appeal and a related request. The initial motion for a new trial was submitted by his mother, Barbara Fried, citing the emergence of new evidence that could warrant a retrial. Bankman-Fried drafted the motion himself while in detention, with limited assistance, and consulted his lawyers and family members for editorial suggestions. He stated that they provided organizational suggestions and helped with printing the motion, as he no longer had access to a word processor. The appeal is currently pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, where his attorney argued that the trial was fundamentally unfair due to limitations on the evidence Bankman-Fried could present to the jury.
