Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities

In a significant move to bridge the gap between tokenized and traditional equities, Ondo Finance now enables investors to engage in corporate governance through proxy voting. This feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, empowers holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company documents and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By integrating crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts, thereby enhancing their participation in governance. This advancement is particularly noteworthy given the rapid growth of tokenized equities in the crypto sector, which has surpassed $1.1 billion in value and more than tripled in the past year. As the largest issuer in this sector with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's introduction of proxy voting addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these securities. Although these tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, they allow investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible and beneficial, combining the advantages of on-chain assets with the governance of traditional assets. The partnership with Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, aims to extend its infrastructure to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows, thereby enhancing auditability, transparency, and compliance in the tokenized world.
