The US Department of Justice has arrested a master sergeant in the Army, alleging he used classified information about a military operation in Venezuela to place bets and win a substantial amount of money. Gannon Ken Van Dyke is accused of unlawful use of government information, theft, and fraud, having placed $33,000 in bets and winning approximately $400,000 after the raid. Van Dyke allegedly created a Polymarket account and placed multiple bets on contracts related to the US operation in Venezuela, including the potential removal of Nicolas Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint. Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, was involved in the planning and execution of the operation and allegedly attempted to conceal his identity after the raid. The case has drawn attention to the use of confidential information for personal gain and the potential risks of insider trading.
