New Wallet Offers Solution to Bitcoin's Quantum Vulnerability Without Requiring a Fork
The developers of a newly launched wallet claim to have found a way to mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing by utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with the Bitcoin network, without requiring any modifications to the network itself. The Postquant Labs project introduced the Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet, which runs on the Arch Network, allowing developers to build smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. This approach enables the addition of a post-quantum signature scheme called WOTS+, providing an extra layer of security without altering Bitcoin's core protocol. By leveraging a 'Layer 2' network, developers can introduce new features without modifying the base layer of Bitcoin, addressing concerns surrounding the potential vulnerability of the network to quantum computing attacks.
