KuCoin EU Expands AML Team to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In an effort to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has augmented its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This move comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) instructed the exchange to halt its European operations due to a shortage of AML and compliance personnel. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLO) and expanded its AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the exchange's commitment to strengthening its compliance team, highlighting several key appointments made since then. KuCoin has faced challenges recently, including being barred from the US market by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and facing regulatory issues in Dubai for operating without a license. However, a timeline for resuming European operations has not been disclosed, as it is subject to discussions with the FMA.
