Trump Champions Crypto Legislation at Exclusive Event with Mike Tyson and Tether CEO
On Saturday, a select group of $TRUMP memecoin holders had the opportunity to meet with President Donald Trump and his notable guests at an exclusive event held at his Florida club. During the gathering, Trump cautioned bankers against hindering the progress of crypto legislation. At the private event in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump reiterated the stance of his White House crypto advisors regarding the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. He pushed back against bank lobbyists who had stalled the legislation, which is a top priority for the crypto industry. According to Trump, the White House will not allow banks to undermine the crypto market structure legislation. The event, billed as "the most exclusive conference in the world," brought together a roster of crypto executives and investors, including Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, Ark Invest's Cathie Wood, and Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley. Boxing legend Mike Tyson was also in attendance. In recent months, banking groups had gained support from some senators, who shared concerns about the potential impact of U.S. regulations on stablecoin rewards programs and traditional deposit accounts. However, recent discussions suggest that the bill may still be revived and has a potential path forward despite a tightening lawmaking calendar this year. Trump has indicated that this is a priority for his administration. During the event, Trump also addressed foreign policy issues, including Iran, Venezuela, and NATO, which he described as a "paper tiger" that is "never there for us." Regarding the digital asset industry, Trump stuck to his familiar narrative: "We are the leader in crypto. It's become mainstream," he said. The conference took place as Trump continues to back crypto ventures associated with his name, garnering both industry support and political scrutiny. His close personal ties to digital assets businesses have been a point of contention in the passage of the Clarity Act, with Democratic negotiators insisting that senior government officials, including the president, should be prohibited from profiting from the industry. A previous event attended by Trump for his memecoin investors last year sparked protests and criticism from Democrats, who alleged that his policy goals benefit his own business interests and constitute an example of government corruption that needs to cease. He was also criticized for meeting privately with unnamed foreign business figures who had effectively paid for their attendance.
