Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Over UST-LUNA Collapse

In a recent court filing, Jane Street has requested that a US court dismiss a lawsuit filed by the bankruptcy estate of Terraform Labs, which alleges that the trading firm contributed to the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token, Luna. The lawsuit, submitted by Terraform administrator Todd Snyder in January, accuses Jane Street of using insider information to engage in trading activities that hastened the collapse of the Terra ecosystem, which led to approximately $40 billion in losses. Jane Street has denied these allegations, arguing that the lawsuit is an attempt to shift responsibility for the collapse, which the firm claims was caused by Terraform's own misconduct. The firm has pointed to previous court cases, including those against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who has been found liable for securities fraud and is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence. Jane Street maintains that it had no involvement in Terraform's fraud scheme and that the case is an attempt to extract funds from the firm to compensate for Terraform's own wrongdoing. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion to dismiss the lawsuit could have significant implications for the assignment of responsibility for the collapse of the Terra ecosystem, which has had far-reaching consequences for the crypto sector.
