Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Hack
The world of decentralized finance has often been marked by division, but in the face of crisis, it is revealing a surprising level of unity. Following the significant losses incurred by Aave, one of DeFi's largest lending protocols, due to the Kelp DAO exploit, the industry has come together to provide support. This collective effort, known as 'DeFi United,' has secured approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has proposed allocating up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery plan, while founder Stani Kulechov has pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally. Other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, BGD Labs, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, have also made significant commitments. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Sharplink has played a strategic advisory role in the discussions. Lido, EtherFi, Mantle, and Compound have also proposed various forms of support, including stETH allocations, credit facility loans, and ETH proposals. Additionally, entities such as Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun have made deposits or purchased AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation, alongside Tyro, also contributing. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi. As the Ethereum ecosystem moves together to protect users and strengthen infrastructure, it is clear that the industry is united in its response to the crisis.
