Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
The price of Bitcoin, currently at $75,975.80, is exhibiting a positive trend above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, pointing out that prices must remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. Analysts at Marex noted, 'The ceasefire is set to end on Wednesday evening, Washington time, and the market must consider two scenarios: either an extension and de-escalation or renewed escalation and oil price increases. This is why, despite Bitcoin's strength, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations. It's a case of headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could push oil prices beyond the March high of $119, potentially causing Asian and global equity markets to plummet. The question remains whether Bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or succumb to pressure alongside the broader market. As of the time of writing, no Iranian delegation had departed for talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without an agreement. Also on analysts' radar is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, having opposed interest rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. His remarks during the session could have a significant impact on the markets. 'His comments could act as a short-term catalyst, especially if they reinforce expectations of policy easing,' stated digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming Bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index up over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, a surprising move given the industry-wide fallout from the weekend's KelpDAO hack, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has taken the biggest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead. Currently trending is the signal that XRP remains below both its 100-day average price and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders Bitcoin and Ether have surpassed these levels on their respective price charts. Until XRP's price reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, its momentum remains weaker compared to BTC and ETH, which have established firmer bullish structures.
