Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders
In a bid to bring tokenized equities in line with their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature, enabling investors to participate in corporate decision-making. This development allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company documents and submit voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. As the tokenized equities sector continues to grow, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo Finance's move to introduce proxy voting is significant. With over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its platform, the company is the largest issuer in the sector. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a key limitation of tokenized equities, which often lack basic governance rights. While Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. "By combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets, we can create a more inclusive and transparent financial system," he said. Broadridge, a leading provider of proxy voting services in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems. The goal is to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, this development will help build trust with end-investors and make the tokenized world more scalable.
