The developers of a new wallet claim to have discovered a method to mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing by utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with Bitcoin, eliminating the need for any modifications to the network itself. Postquant Labs introduced the Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet on Tuesday, which operates on the Arch Network, a system that enables developers to create smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. The Quip wallet incorporates a post-quantum signature scheme called WOTS+, which is a tested cryptographic technique that does not rely on elliptic curve math, making it resistant to quantum computer attacks. By leveraging a 'Layer 2' network, developers can add features to Bitcoin without altering its base layer.
