Experts Warn: Quantum Computing Threat to Crypto Looms, Preparation is Key

Despite the fact that current quantum machines lack the necessary power to compromise the cryptography underpinning Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other networks, the report cautions against complacency, emphasizing that the development of a large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer is inevitable, albeit with an uncertain timeline. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology recommends transitioning to quantum-resistant cryptography by 2035, a deadline that may prove overly optimistic.
