Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a bid to enhance the functionality of its tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has launched a proxy voting feature, allowing holders of over 250 tokenized securities to participate in corporate decision-making. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables investors to review company documents and submit their voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system, using their crypto wallets for authentication. As the tokenized equities sector continues to grow, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo Finance, the largest issuer in this space with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs, aims to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized assets. By introducing proxy voting, Ondo addresses a significant limitation of tokenized equities, which often lack basic governance rights. Although the tokens remain separate from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, this new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain transactions with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain-based systems, aiming to create a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets. By providing the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance, this integration is expected to enhance trust among end investors and contribute to the scalability of the tokenized asset sector, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
