Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders

In a bid to enhance the investing experience, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature for holders of its extensive range of tokenized equities. This innovation enables investors to engage more meaningfully with the companies they invest in, bridging the gap between traditional and tokenized assets. Through a partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo's platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to access company filings and cast their votes using Broadridge's ProxyVote system. This integration marks a significant step forward for tokenized equities, which have seen rapid growth, with the sector now boasting over $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this space, with more than $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs, Ondo's move underscores its commitment to making financial assets more accessible and governed. By introducing proxy voting, Ondo addresses a critical gap in tokenized equities, where governance rights have often been lacking. Although the tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares, this new system empowers investors to influence voting decisions, aligning more closely with traditional shareholder experiences. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development is central to the company's vision of enhancing accessibility to traditional financial assets. By combining the benefits of blockchain technology, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, with the governance aspects of traditional assets, Ondo aims to set a new standard for tokenized equities. The collaboration with Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, extends the firm's infrastructure into blockchain systems, supporting a unified approach to both digital and conventional assets. This move is expected to significantly enhance the scalability and trustworthiness of the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, who emphasized the importance of providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance as traditional assets.
