KuCoin EU Boosts Anti-Money Laundering Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulator Concerns

In a move to address regulatory concerns, the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has enhanced its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority instructed KuCoin EU to halt its European operations due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. To rectify the situation, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its new Anti-Money Laundering Officer and expanded its AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the company's commitment to bolstering its compliance team, highlighting several new appointments. KuCoin has faced recent challenges, including being barred from the U.S. market by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and facing regulatory issues in Dubai. However, Liu could not provide a specific timeline for when the FMA might allow KuCoin EU to resume its European operations, stating that discussions with the regulator are ongoing.
