Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities to mirror traditional assets, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. The new feature, developed in partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company documents and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and documents typically reserved for brokerage accounts. As the tokenized equities sector experiences rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo's move to introduce proxy voting addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these assets. While Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, they enable investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with governance rights. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems, aiming to provide a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets. This integration is expected to enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance in the tokenized world, ultimately fostering trust among investors.
