Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing

Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,059.38, maintaining a positive trajectory above the $75,000 level, a critical threshold for bulls to maintain control, as highlighted by CoinDesk. However, market observers are advising caution, noting that prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex pointed out that the market must consider two possible paths: an extension and de-escalation of the conflict, or a renewed escalation and oil price stress, which could lead to significant market volatility. This 'headline risk with a timer' could still cause prices to fluctuate rapidly, even with bitcoin's current strength. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially destabilizing Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to demonstrate resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Meanwhile, the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh's reputation as an 'inflation hawk' who opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash, could influence market expectations. His remarks during the session may act as a near-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, including XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, while the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decrease of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
