UK Seeks to Lure Crypto Exchange Bybit from UAE with Promises of Innovation
In a bid to replicate the success of Dubai's thriving cryptocurrency scene, UK economic development officials have extended an invitation to Bybit, a leading crypto exchange, to establish a presence in London. Bybit's CEO, Ben Zhou, revealed that the UK government is eager to attract major businesses and create jobs, with a focus on forthcoming pro-crypto legislation. Zhou's meetings with government-linked bodies, including the Financial Conduct Authority and the House of Lords, coincided with UK Fintech Week and a Treasury plan to overhaul payment systems using stablecoins and tokenization. The UK's efforts to lure Bybit and other crypto giants come as the UAE faces challenges, including recent attacks from Iran, which have prompted an exodus of residents and businesses. The UK government aims to capitalize on this opportunity to win back companies and investment, with Zhou noting that 'now is good timing' for the UK to make its move.
