US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

A US Army master sergeant has been arrested and charged with unlawfully using government information for personal gain, theft, and fraud. Gannon Ken Van Dyke allegedly placed $33,000 in bets on a raid in Venezuela, winning approximately $400,000, using his knowledge of the forthcoming operation. The US Department of Justice claims Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed bets on contracts related to the US operation in Venezuela, including the removal of Nicolas Maduro. Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, was involved in the planning and execution of the military operation. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint. After the raid, Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his identity and withdrew his winnings, converting them to cryptocurrency and transferring them to a brokerage account. The case has drawn attention, with US President Donald Trump commenting on the allegations and the use of prediction market bets using confidential information.
