Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $80,000, But Analysts See Temporary Setback

Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,029.33, struggling to break through the $80,000 barrier due to significant selling pressure. Despite recent gains in stablecoin liquidity, ETF demand, and a risk-on equity market, the cryptocurrency's progress has been hindered. Over the past 24 hours, bitcoin has experienced a 0.4% decline, with ether, XRP, and Solana's SOL also seeing drops of 0.6%, 0.8%, and over 1%, respectively. According to Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, the $80,000 level is acting as a near-term ceiling due to concentrated sell orders. However, Kuptsikevich believes the pullback is temporary and consistent with the broader uptrend that began in late March. On-chain and ETF data support this view, with crypto exchange Binance recording a net inflow of roughly $3.4 billion in stablecoins this month. Institutional demand remains strong, with U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs pulling in $2.44 billion in investor money this month. Nevertheless, security risks in decentralized finance (DeFi) continue to weigh on sentiment, with DeFi protocols losing an estimated $623 million to hacks in April alone. In traditional markets, WTI crude oil prices remain above $90 per barrel, threatening to destabilize the global economy with high inflation.
