Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Hack

The world of decentralized finance is often marked by divisions, but in the face of crisis, an unusual level of coordination has emerged. Following the significant losses suffered by Aave, one of DeFi's largest lending protocols, due to the Kelp DAO exploit, a broad recovery effort has been initiated, drawing in capital and credit commitments from across the industry. Dubbed 'DeFi United,' this effort has secured approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs, along with other key players, is at the forefront of this effort, emphasizing the shared priority of supporting users and restoring market stability. A governance proposal outlines a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, with Aave's founder, Stani Kulechov, personally donating 5,000 ETH. Other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also stepping in with significant contributions. The response has quickly extended beyond Aave's immediate orbit, with Consensys and its founder, Joseph Lubin, committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Smaller but significant contributions are also coming from the community, including proposals from Lido, EtherFi, and Compound. Furthermore, entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun are making deposits or purchasing AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, Ink Foundation, and Tyro also involved. The approach to contributions varies, with some offering grants, others making deposits, and several extending credit lines, reflecting different strategies for balancing support with risk management. In parallel, Aave Labs has proposed that Arbitrum governance approve the release of roughly 30,765.67 ETH to support affected rsETH holders and restore rsETH's backing. While much of the capital is still subject to governance approval, the breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi. As Joseph Lubin noted, 'The Ethereum ecosystem has always been at its best when it moves together,' and the 'DeFi United' effort embodies this spirit of coordination and mutual support.
