Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders

In a significant move, Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities platform by introducing proxy voting for holders of over 250 tokenized securities, valued at $700 million. This development brings tokenized stocks and ETFs closer to their traditional counterparts, enabling investors to participate in corporate governance. The new feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows investors to review company filings and submit voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access documents and governance tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. This innovation is particularly noteworthy as the tokenized equities sector has experienced rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, tripling in size over the past year. As the largest issuer in this sector, Ondo's introduction of proxy voting to its equity tokens addresses a significant gap in governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares and do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express preferences that Ondo can apply when voting the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision to make traditional financial assets more accessible, offering the benefits of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, while also providing governance rights. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems through this partnership, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, this move will enhance auditability, transparency, and compliance, making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors.
